Karuna Mission Social Solidarity - Yangon (KMSS-Yangon) implements social development works for Yangon Arch-Diocese as mandated by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Myanmar. KMSS-Ygn is one of 16 Diocesan Offices (DOs) coordinating with KMSS National Office (NO) which is also based in Yangon. The DOs play the key role in implementing multi-sectorial programming, while the NO provides a technical support and coordinating role.
KMSS - YGN is to enhance the capacity of the local people with practical knowledge and skills, in uplifting the overall living standard of the poor and the marginalized regardless of creed and ethnicity through facilitating awareness trainings, workshops, strengthening formal and informal education, fortifying health, and improving agricultural and livelihood opportunities.
KMSS - YGN has been putting every effort to maximize the quality and the dignity of life of the poor and the needy, focusing the areas: Livelihood, Social and Environmental Protection, DRR and Emergency Response and Education.

Karuna Mission Social Solidarity- Pathein was established in 2001 as a social service organization directly guidance by the Church. KMSS-Pathein is a Charitable Organization of the Catholic Diocese of Pathein situated in Pathein, Ayeyarwaddy Region, Myanmar. It is known also as Caritas Diocesan, which is a social arm of the diocese in the mission of the Church. It is a Faith and Church Based Organization giving social services to the poor and vulnerable people. Its focus geographical area is in Ayeyarwaddy Region, Myanmar. The mission of Karuna Pathein is to provide social services to the vulnerable and poor people in Ayeyarwaddy Region, Myanmar, regardless of race, gender, and religion. Being faith and Catholic Church Based Organization, the leadership role is given to a Church leader who is inspired and guided by the CST (Catholic Social Teachings) and Vatican Documents on Social Teachings. Currently KMSS-Pathein is working in 9 townships and 93 villages.
Bishop John is Catholic Church leader of Pathein Catholic Diocesan. Pathein Catholic Church flying with two arms which are known as Pastoral arm and Social arm. KMSS Pathein is flying as a social arm for the people with the status of non-discrimination, non-violation and it is going ahead to the peace and justice.
KMSS-Pathein focuses five-area intervention in her services as social development in the church. 1) Livelihood, 2) Education, 3) Health, 4) Social Protection and 5) Disaster Risk Reduction are the main focus sectors of KMSS-Pathein. Currently, KMSS-Pathein has 45 paid staffs and operating eight projects in the region of Ayeyarwaddy. On the other hands, KMSS Pathein does humanitarian assistant with the best practices for the region by the collaboration with government sectors it is well prepared to response humanitarian works.

Since 2002 Karuna Mission Social Solidarity (KMSS), guided by the Social Teaching of the Church and mandated by CBCM, undertakes the Social Development activities in 16 Dioceses. It works in cooperation with faith based leaders, local authority, ethnic groups and community leaders at all levels. The main role of KMSS is to coordinate with donors and Diocesan KMSS offices through local Church and to help Diocesan KMSS in enhancing the capacity of the local people with practical knowledge and skills, in uplifting the overall living standard of the poor and the marginalized regardless of creed and ethnicity through facilitating awareness training workshops, strengthening formal and informal education, fortifying health, and improving agricultural and livelihood opportunities.
KMSS-Pyay has experience implementing emergency response, Integrated Community Development program, Maternal and Child Health Nutrition, HIV/AIDS care and support, ECCD and Child Protection, Primary Health Care and livelihoods projects, with a geographic focus on Chin and Rakhine States. KMSS-Pyay has experience in the implementation of livelihoods recovery and development activities, including Farmer Field Schools, support for animal rearing and micro-finance projects for several years. During the Cyclone Giri and Komen emergency response period, KMSS-Pyay set up four distribution points to provide emergency relief in the Townships of Myebon, Minbya and Pyay. In Minbya, KMSS-Pyay worked in 18 villages (within 7 village tracts) to provide food assistance for four months.
In addition, KMSS-Pyay is implementing both previously existing projects and cyclone recovery project activities in Myebon Township. Started in 2009, Karuna’s ‘Integrated Community Development project’ covers 6 villages in Myebon providing support for water and sanitation, livelihoods (embankment construction, agricultural inputs, small animals and livestock, demonstration farms, and micro-finance) and education ( Teachers trainings, pre-school centers). In response to the cyclone Giri, KMSS-Pyay is also working on education focusing on Child Friendly Spaces project in 10 villages supported by UNICEF in the village tract of Dai Bon, Chaung Kya, Nga Shwe Pyin, Pin Kat Chaung, Pha Lar Kya, and Kyauk Pha Lar village tracts. KMSS-Pyay currently has 8 staff in Myebon for Building Community Resilience to Disaster Risk through Community Led Livelihood Program for 14 villages funded by One Body One Spirit Movement of South Korea (Caritas Seoul).
Based on these previous livelihood experiences in working in Myebon Township of Rakhine State, and level of organization capacity it is possible, KMSS-Pyay can handle to gain theoretical and practical knowledge in implementation of humanitarian and other development activities to take a strong role in the future.
Currently, KMSS-Pyay has 35 project staff and 2 volunteers (male 26 and female 22) working with different programs such as Social Protection, Education, Health, Livelihood and Emergency Relief. With the support of International funding agencies such as CAFOD, CEI, OBOS, Caritas Italiana, Misereor, GRET and IRC together with local communities' participation, KMSS-Pyay is accomplishing its mission for the people in the rural communities. In all programs and projects, KMSS appreciates and recognizes local diversity of races, culture, languages and religions. KMSS Staff and volunteers organize and mobiles the existing community strength and local human resources in capacity building and allowing them to have confidence in decision making with regards to their own lives.

Karuna Mission Social Solidarity- Mawlamyine Diocese was officially established at Mawlamyine city in 2002, under the guidance of Bishop Raymond Saw Po Ray. It had been serving the people in the various fields such as Education support for High school students, Teachers’ Training, Health Awareness Training, Child Protection, WASH, Community Health Workers’ Training, Small farms for livelihood, Emergency Response & Resettlement, Peace Building Training, and IDP’s program in the years of 2002-2012. After 2012, almost all of mentioned programs/projects were terminated in Mawlamyine office.
Thai-Burma Border Program was initiated in 2012 and ended in 2016. ECCD was begun in 2014 and presently continued. Anti-human Trafficking & Promotion of Safe Migration (AHT) was initiated in 2015 and presently continued to upgrade the approaches of program.
In accordance with the mandate of diocesan bishop, all staffs and office’ assets were shifted to Myeik on 6 April 2016.
The total area covered up for all abovementioned projects/programs is approximately 516.12 Km (from north to south) and 154.83 Km (from east to west) of Tanintharyi Division which includes Thayetchaung, Palaw, Myeik, Kyun Su, and Bokpyin Townships.
As Tanintharyi region has been emerging economically and socially to more prospective development both in communities and infrastructure after having signed NCA in this region, KMSS-MLM is aware to move its location into that region. According to National Statistic of 2014, Tanintharyi region is lightly populated with 1.5 million inhabitants in the area of 43,344.9 km2.
After settled down at Myeik in 2016, Civil Society Strengthening & Pro-poor Market (CS&PPM) was introduced in our diocese, jointly coordinating with other 6 dioceses, started in 2017; and it has been progressing steadily. Community Forestry for indigenous people in selected hilly area was successfully implemented in the years of 2017 and 2018. At present, that community is able to continue this program by their own relentless effort. Scaling up Nutrition and Maternal Assistance & Child Health was initiated in 2018, coordinating with other 5 dioceses and continued with many successful stories among the communities living on Islands.
