GOAL

To enlighten families and communities by promoting and supporting quality education of children, especially among the poorest, to successfully complete their education from birth to high school

OBJECTIVES

In eight dioceses

  • To educate parents, pre-school teachers and other primary care-givers to support their childrens education
  • To support adequate education from pre-school age to higher education through coordination, networking and collaboration

   

MAIN PROCESSES & ACTIONS

Assessment of NO & DO Staff, and Training to NO and 8 DOs

Carry out assessment preparation meeting (preparation of questionnaire; assessment team formation; etc) with one representative each from ECCD sector of Lashio, MKA, Bamaw, Taunggyi, Loikaw, Pekhon, Taunngu, MLM + National Office.  Data collection in eight dioceses by focal person of each diocese.  Data compilation meeting and reporting.

Organize meeting six monthly among the Education Sub Committee

Conduct the Education Sub Committee meetings with members including Sr. Elizabeth (NO) and 1 representative each per diocese.  First meetings at LSHO, second meeting TNGU, third meeting PK, and fourth meeting LKW.  Assisting in implementation and ensuring monitoring based on Results Framework.  Reporting back to the KMSS members of Steering Committee or Directors Board as needed.

There is need to strengthen the KMSS coordinated approach in the Education sector, and to keep an eye on the implementation and progress and monitoring of Education sector strategic action plan.

Assessment of the ECCD Management Committees

Carry out the Assessment Preparation Meeting at Taungngu (1 ECDD representative from each diocese + NO Team, all together 12 persons).  Assessment tool will try to be in line as much as possible with the standard criteria which are used by UNICEF and other organizations in the Education network and working groups in which KMSS is participating.  Data Collection in 8 dioceses. (2 ECCD staff per diocese, total 16 staff, a week).  Data Compilation Meeting and Reporting at Taungngu (1 ECDD representative from each diocese + NO Team, all together 12 persons).  Based on assessments, addressing the gaps and strengthening the ECCD Mgt committees.  First Workshop & Exposure Visits (at Loikaw diocese for 4 Dioceses Taungngu+Loikaw+Pekhon+Taunggyi) (8 ECCD Committee members per diocese + Facilitators Team, all together 35 persons, 7 days).  Second Workshop & Exposure Visits (at Lashio diocese another 4 dioceses Lashio+Bamw+MKA+MLM) (8 ECCD Committee members per diocese + Facilitators Team, all together 35 persons, 7 days).  Third Workshop & Exposure Visits (8 Dioceses to other successful ECCD organization) (4 to 6 ECCD Committee members per diocese + Facilitators Team, all together 35 persons, 7 days)

Establishing income generation activities to contribute to long term operation of ECCD centres.

Exploration and develop a strategy for income generation approach.  Formation of Diocesan ECCD-IG Committees who will do assessment for IGP that is adaptable with local situation.  Conduct the Diocesan Meetings.  Screening and selection of 1 Pilot IGPs in each diocese, and implement.  Monitoring and follow up supports by Diocesan ECCD-IG Committees.  Document the best practices for how to integrate the IGPs in the ECCD projects.

This action can contribute to address ongoing costs of existing ECCD centres.  There is need for ongoing adequate health and nutrition care for ECCD children.  There is need to cover these costs.  There is also ongoing need for education supports for ECCD and primary school students such as stationeries, books, fees.  There is an increasing number of children who can access to ECCD and Primary school.  ECCD teacher should have properly compensation but not all receive yet.
