Organizational Information

KMSS Taunggyi is a faith-based social network at the service of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Taunggyi. With the inspiration “Option for the poor” it has been established by Archbishop Matthias U Shwe together with a number of priests and 9 laymen in the year of 1994 in Mobye, as social arm to serve the poor and the needy. It was established with the aim of helping out the poor due to peoples’ encountering difficulties in their livelihood because of the 3 years draught in Shan and Kayah States. Moreover the rural people were fo rced to leave their villages and were cut off from the supply of goods and food in 1994, was another reason of being in condition to approach the Church for their basic needs. Only in the year of 2000 it was well established with proper structure. In 2001 it came out with its vision, mission, diocesan strategic plan, and job descriptions of its staff. The first General Assembly was held in 1996, and the second in 2006. Its mission was give full attention to holistic development, realization of Justice and Peace, Environmental protection, Humanitarian assistance and Emergency relief services.
